More than 2600 people visited the first ever Roanoke Valley Super Adoption held under the big white tent in the parking lot in front of the PETsMART on May 3, 2003. By the time the Roanoke Valley Super Adoption opened to the public at 10 am Saturday, over 80 people were already waiting in line for their chance to adopt one of the 140 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies waiting for a good home. At the end of the day, nearly half had been adopted. Everyone who adopted a shelter animal during the event was entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes. In addition, each adopter received an adoption kit, courtesy of PETsMART, containing food samples, coupons, rebates and information on caring for their new pet. PETsMART also took a photo of each adopter with their adopted pet. One of the big success stories at the event was Angels of Assisi, who brought 16 animals to the Super Adoption. By the end of the day, fourteen of the sixteen animals they featured were adopted. |
