140 Animals Featured at the First Super Adoption

Roanoke Valley Super Adoption held its first  Super Adoption on Saturday, May 3, 2003.  The event showcased 16 humane societies, rescue groups and shelters from the Roanoke Valley, New River Valley, Salem and surrounding areas.
One hundred and forty dogs, cats, kittens and puppies were featured under the large tent in

front of the PETsMART store at 4749 Valley View Blvd.
The one-day event drew over 1600 visitors and resulted in the adoption of nearly half the animals featured.
PETsMART provided adoption kits to each person that adopted an animal during the event.  Everyone that adopted an animal was also given the option of having a complimentary adoption photo taken with their new family member.
The event also featured demonstrations by the

Roanoke Police Canine Unit, PETsMART Pet Salon, and the PETsMART Pet Training Division.
PETsMART Charities provided a grant to cover the cost of the tent and other rental equipment.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to our first Super Adoption, we're pleased to announce that the Roanoke Valley Super Adoption  is scheduled to become an annual

event in the Roanoke Valley.  The Second Annual Roanoke Valley Super Adoption will be held Saturday, May 1st and Sunday, May 2, 2004.  This year the event has been ex

panded to two days to give more people the opportunity to visit the event and hopefully adopt a shelter animal in need of a good home.
